I've witnessed and captured so many weddings. I've seen the behind the scenes. I've witnessed the good, the beautiful, and the less forgotten pieces of weddings. I've come up with a list of what I think are the most important investments you can make for your wedding.
1. Photographer- I know, I know.. Im a photographer so OF COURSE I would say this, but let me tell you the amount of times I've heard people say "My cousin told me she would shoot my wedding for free, or we went with someone cheaper" These are the saddest sentences us photographers hear. I have met so many people who say their #1 regret was not hiring a photographer they loved. No need to spend money on anything else if you don't have a photographer who can capture the beautiful details! The images taken at your wedding will be one of the only ways to relive the moments. I cant stress it enough the importance of hiring a good photographer!
2. Florals- Honestly if I just had a wall full of flowers for my wedding I would be content. I literally cannot get enough of them! They can add so much. Meeting with your florist and picking out the exact flowers you want, can make your personality come out out. Choose a florist who has a style you vibe well with. Many photographers know florists they can reccomend, dont ever be afraid to ask.
3. The dress- Im a true believer that you do not need to spend thousands on your wedding dress. I do think however, you should choose what YOU love and feel good in. I've seen dresses that only cost $300 and they were amazing! I've also seen dresses that were $5000 that were not amazing. Whatever you spend, just make it makes you feel like the prettiest happiest bride!
4. LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION. This is SO SO SO important. You can spend thousand and thousands on your wedding, but if you choose a venue that isn't what you LOVE, the photographer cant magically make it look amazing. Yes she can get good photos of it, but she cant make your venue or location look good, if it doesnt naturally look good. For example, I shoot a lot of beautiful outdoor weddings. I've also shot some weddings in darkly lit, boxy, and not really beautiful locations. So of course my photos will look WAY better in an amazing outdoor setting. I would take this into consideration when choosing your venue. If you want beautiful outdoor, moutainy locations, then you have to choose that! Its so simple but I feel bad when someone wants that look but they choose a dark and boxy location. Cause I cant photoshop it to look how my outdoor weddings look. You can find some amazing locations that arent expensive too. One of my favorite weddings this year was in her backyard but she made it look amazing! It saved her a lot of money to do it in her backyard as well.
I hope these help a little!! Of course these are just my personal opinions but I really do believe them. You dont need to spend millions on your wedding, but investing in a few really important things will make such a difference!
